Falling Far Behind

Wow,
It has been a couple month since I have blogged at all. I know everyones life is very busy and I know that we all fight the battle of prioritizing our lives. That is the reason for the delay in blogging. It has been very busy here in Fairmont and I will eventually catch up on all the info. I will be uploading a few pictures from our recent trip to Myrtle Beach. Keep checking back...and God bless you.

July 4th was a great day of fellowship with friends of ours, the McCreary's. We had a great day of fellowship, fun, food, and a lot of laughs. It was a great cup of coffee, if any of you know Roger McCreary you will have to ask him. It took a lot of work for it, but we each enjoyed a couple cups of coffee. It is amazing what we try to use to fix it, but I will keep that a secret.
Our kids really enjoyed the time together with riding their 4-wheeler, playing with their dogs, enjoying fireworks, and the excitement of lighting of the fuel. We look forward to many more times together.
Let me fast forward to this week. I have been a bachelor it this week, while Pam and the kids are at CCYC and will be home tonight. As I have stated in previous posts, I believe in getting my children to youth camps where they can associate with the type of youth I want them to marry. God has given them a great camp and I am they have gone to CCYC...It is worth it.
God Bless,
James
Life is Fragile
>> Thursday, July 3, 2008
Good Morning,
It is great to live in a free country and live a great life that God has given me. This past week we have enjoyed a time of fellowship with the visiting of my wives parents. It changes the routine, but it is great to have different ones come and visit. I always want to take time to enjoy life's greatest values...Family.
This week I was at the hospital late at night with a family who lost a father and a companion. The gentleman was 40 years old and ended up having a heart attack. I am reminded how fragile life is. Take time for your family this week, and make sure you enjoy the holiday in celebrating the freedoms we enjoy. God still is in control no matter what the media says. Enjoy today, because tomorrow may never come and then you will always regret not saying that extra, "I love you" or whatever your heart says.
May God Bless You, and God Bless America.

Summer In Full Swing
Hello Again,
We are in the full swing of summer and time keeps on ticking. Last week we enjoyed the Bible Methodist Camp in St. Mary's Ohio along with conference. It was a great camp and with the preaching of Rev. Daniel Stetler, Rev. Paul Pierpoint and the singing of the Marc Sankey family it was made to be a tremendous camp. My father, Rev. John Powell Sr. just joined the Heartland Conference and is very excited about the future.
Getting back home and into the swing of things and catching up always seems to be a challenge. my wife's parents are in this week and we are enjoying the fellowship and picking on each other. We are also ramping up for CCYC and Bible Methodist Youth Camp. I firmly believe that getting our young people to youth camps is of utmost importance. We wonder why they marry out of the church, but we don't seem to think its very important to get them around other christian young people. I as a father am very dogmatic regarding this issue. It makes me so upset when I see families that do not take an inventory of where their priorities lay. We seem to be able to go where we want to go and travel where we really want to travel, but when it comes to God's business and the future of our churches and children, we seem to not have any care for what happens...WAKE UP CHRISTIANS!
I don't apologize for my ranting and ravings, this lies close to my heart. May God help us all...and if your at any of the youth camps I mentioned, I may see you there. God bless.

Great Fellowship
>> Sunday, June 15, 2008
Good Morning,
Once again it has been a very busy week, but we are enjoying all that is happening. The Hobe Sound Quartet arrived around 5:30 pm Sat. and we got to meet a couple new guys. It was great to see Bro. Snider again. We then took them over to the church to setup and let them goof off for a while. Then...back to the parsonage for the youth get together with pizza, chips, pop, sweets and a lot of laughs. The youth went downstairs to play ping pong and air hockey and when it seemed all was quiet, that is when we learned they had slipped upstairs to play PlayStation. After the church youth and families had left, I then took the group over to their hotel. With us leaving for camp early Monday morning, the hotel seemed to be the appropriate thing to do for my wife.
We are anticipating a great Sunday with it being Father's Day. The children will have a little program, then turning it over to Hobe Sound to do their "magic". Tonight we will be logging online to watch the TLC commissioning service due to one of young ladies is going to the Bahamas on TLC. Well enough for right now....hope all of you have a great Sunday.

More of our week
>> Thursday, June 12, 2008
hey...here I am again trying to catch you up on all that is happening. Wednesday evening we lifted church service to have a out of school special skate for all the skaters. We then had the people of the church to come and fellowship with the skaters. The only problem was...It was HOT and all the skaters didn't show up. We still had a great time, met some new teens from the surrounding community and Sis. Christy, along with her daughter brought the food. After a quick devotional, prayer and a bite to eat the skaters continued on throughout the evening.
We also were keeping three of the grandchildren of one of our ladies in the church. We have had a great time with them. My son and daughter have helped out quite a bit. This morning we went to the park and played a little kickball, then on to the playground for hide and seek. The big thing seemed to be laser tag in the parsonage basement. I just am praying that we can be a good positive influence on these children. Tonight we are preparing for Bible Study and then the preparation for the HSBC coming in on Sat. evening with them having the AM service. Then early Monday we get to take off for camp. Whew....a little tiring just typing about it...everyone have a great day and we will catch up with you all later.

The Summer
>> Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Does your mind ever think back of when as a kid or a teen you looked forward to the summer months? Out of school, getting to sleep in, stay up late, no schedule, no pressure of everyday activities. Well I admit, sometimes I long for those days again, but it is still exciting the go into the summer months and know that there is great days ahead.
Tuesday was one of those busy days where its not on the schedule, but you just take the day as it comes. In the morning, Joshua and I slipped over to the church and helped Dan Ellis and his children finish the spreading and smoothing of the dirt around our concrete we have put in for the skateboarding and church get together. After several hours, and a few times of realizing we haven't used some muscles in a while, we completed the task. I appreciate Dan Ellis's dedication to finishing what has been started. He has devoted hours upon hours of time in this project.
Then my family and I went to visit Bro. Begunich and with him recently getting out of the hospital, he still has some recovery to go. Then swinging on up to Metz and seeing Bro. & Sis. Ernie Wilson who are in for the summer and staying with the Simms it completed a very busy day. Its the days of summer and it makes it very enjoyable. Well enough of my rambling...I will catch everyone up on what is taking place the rest of this week....continuing a very busy schedule, but it is all for God.
Loving the Life God has given,

Another Great Day
>> Saturday, June 7, 2008
Another busy day here in WV, but it was an enjoyable one. We prepared for the picnic and softball with the church people and we had a great time. After the time of stretching our muscles and finding out how unlimber we are, we then ended up at the church and after the sun went down, we played some basketball with a few of the skateboarders. I had the privilege to talk with a few of the skaters and come to find out, Fairmont Police actually are enforcing the law of no skating on city sidewalks. Wow...isn't God's timing good, as we have just started the skateboarding and we are getting more here on the property and investing our lives into theirs it makes me praise God all the more.
Please keep us in your prayers, we are having our 1 year anniversary of the skating and lifting our Wednesday evening service and allowing the skaters a 3 hour skate. Please pray as we try to continue to connect with these skaters.
So....I had better try to continue to pursue Sunday messages.....God Bless you and we trust you will have a great Lord's Day.
Family Day
>> Friday, June 6, 2008
Today was a day I purposed to spend with my family. As a pastor I am finding, it is easy to be available for everyone else and always put your family last. Well today, I put my family first. We did take the time to go sign up for school next year through Abeka DVD and then ... We had a great time, after going to get Chinese we went to a local park and had a picnic. We headed to see if we could find the game Yard Darts at the local dept. store aka Wal-mart and it was no where to be found. They now have it "Kid Safe" with magnets and the target having plastic covered sheet of metal. Its just not the same.
We did enjoy the game, but had to take it back due to the breaking of one of the "Safe Darts". So we then grabbed horseshoes, and that was the great game of the day. If was great to devote most of the day to the family and just cut loose and enjoy ourselves. I always want to make sure I keep connected with my family, when all else is going haywire...they are my support base.
Joshua did have the most ringers of all the family and it made me realize, it becoming the time of real challenges in all sports we play. Some day he will be able to be me in everything we do. We did enjoy it all though. I better log off....God bless all of you.
Our World
>> Wednesday, June 4, 2008
I just finished reading the post from Jim Daly's post of Not In My Shower regarding the laws changing in towns as to whether a man feeling his feminine side can go into a ladies restroom or visa versa. My mind wonders and tries to picture, what is in store for us as society seems to slip to new lows in our moral state. Thinking of my background and how I have been raised in the church, and knowing how the church has been in the past 30 years. I feel it is time we stand up as Christians and let our voice be heard.
I know, you are thinking, I can't do anything and my vote doesn't really count. Well pull your head out of the sand, and take responsibility for the future of your children, your grandchildren, and the future of the church. Get ready for a battle and let us all stand together and push forward for Christ.
You may ask, how can I get involved? First, call your local politicians, your senator, your congressman, and do whatever it takes to get involved. Second, call Focus on the Family at 1-800-A-FAMILY and get your voter registration toolkit for your church. The item number is X00413M and the brochure # is X00412M.
Please, let us all STAND TOGETHER for our FUTURE!
God Bless You.

Recession Proof
>> Tuesday, May 20, 2008
On every one's mind seems to be the gas prices, rising food costs and the question, Is our economy in a recession or not? What about our future, what is going to happen with the war. Each one can come up with questions that seem to never end. There is one thing I know...I know who I have believed and am persuaded.
When your foundation is eternal and not of this temporal world, there is a bright outlook.
2Co 4:18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Praise God for His eternal plan!
God bless and have a great day,

New Life in the Air
>> Friday, April 11, 2008
Spring brings to us, who live in the "Chilly North" a sense of new life and some firsts for the new year. Just this week the yard was mowed for the first time, we have our windows open for the first time and feeling the nice breeze and hearing the wonderful sounds of spring. It is great seeing the buds on the trees, and the grass turning from brown to green.
All this brings to mind when you find a new truth in your devotions or something in your walk with Christ come afresh and anew. I know I need to be careful and not be giving a sermon on this blog, but it is so great to see new life. While we all have our ups and downs in our spirtitual walk, I want to say; it is great to feel as there is new life in my spirtitual walk.
Not only in my life, but in our church, in our ministries. God is doing great things, no all of them are not visible, but it seems to be felt underneath all. God is going to do something big and I am just thrilled to be part of God's plan. Keep looking up.....God is in control. If you don't know Christ, get with someone and hear about the "New Life" only He can give. If you don't have anyone you know, feel free to email me @ pastorpowell@netzero.net

In a Whirlwind
>> Thursday, March 27, 2008
I have become very delinquent in the posting of this blog again. We returned from Hobe Sound Bible College welcome week on Sat. before Easter. We have an enjoyable time and was able to steer one of our youth to the right people and they are planning to go to college to Hobe Sound next year. We are so happy to see young people following Gods leading.
We are starting up our skateboarding again this year and God gave us a good number Wed. evening. We had a total of 28 including our church youth present. We are in the midst of stepping up to the next level in this ministry. We are looking for picnic tables, donations to help with food, and expanding our concrete among several other things. If anyone would like to help out please email me at pastorpowell@netzero.net
Have a great day and we are looking forward to what God has in store for us this year.

Going to the repair shop
>> Tuesday, March 11, 2008
Today I got to experience what I have heard from so many people at different times. You know, when there is something going wrong with your vehicle and you just can't exactly figure out what it is. We have had a noise for several month now with our van and today I finally went to get it checked out.
Well as you probably have guessed it, as I pulled up to the shop and got out I noticed it was a little quieter but I didn't really think to much about it. I went in and brought the mechanic out, opened the hood and he looked all around and found nothing making me look like a fool. Not that nobody thinks that anyway...ha ha. This just is another day in the crazy life of the Powell family. I just have to laugh, you always hear stories about this happening, but this is the first time it happened to me. The mechanic looked at me as if I was imagining things. Oh well, maybe if I have something happen on the way to Florida this next week, I can call and ask for a free tow.
I had better stop rambling, I hope all of you have a great day and if you are going to be at Hobe Sound Welcome Week, we will see you there.

Heading to Florida
>> Monday, March 10, 2008
Its Monday and it is the typical feeling of any pastor....blah. We are scheduled to be in a meeting with one of our people today regarding their child and school. This year has seemed to be flying by and I know it will even get busier when it warms up. We are heading to Florida for welcome week in Hobe Sound and we will be sponsoring two youth. I am ready to thaw out a little.
As for the family, Pamela is busy trying to help the kids get caught up in school after being in Indiana for her grandfathers funeral and plus she is trying to get them ahead for the upcoming days from IHC. So as normal, our life is flying by, but I know that God is with us. Have a great day and God Bless.

Its been a whirlwind
>> Saturday, March 8, 2008
Hello again,
We just returned from Indiana from my wife's grandfathers funeral. It is amazing how life can change so quickly. It seems to me that 2008 has been quite a whirlwind so far. The great thing is that I know God is always with us. He has kept us safe and I thank him for that.
A couple weeks ago we went with some members of our church for a day, and while driving two different vehicles it seems only when we are with them, crazy things happen. I was leading the way and missed my turn. I pulled into a business real quick and turned around, and while doing this I hit the curb. It seemed to be no big deal, until we made it out to the interstate and that is when I realized I had a flat tire. Pulling to the side of the road, and of course it was raining I examined it and found I had scraped the tip of the valve stem thus the leaking, now flat tire. We put the donut spare on and made our way to a nearby Walmart. We were blessed with one that didn't have a tire change, so we made our way on over to K mart which we had the same result. We did finally find a Pep boys, but by the time we arrived there my spare was flat. It is great to just enjoy the experiences in life that we can look back on and laugh later. The funny thing of it is, the last time we were with the folks from my church, they had a flat tire. As I said, it seems something always happens when we are with them, but we just all laugh and continue on.
Enjoy your day.

Catching Up
>> Wednesday, February 27, 2008
Wow,
What a month it has been. The harder I try to keep this blog up to date the harder it seems I can't keep up. Well let me bring you up to date at what has been happening in our part of the globe.
A complete month of being sick, starting with a cold, then on to a virus and ending up bronchitis really took me out of commission for a complete four weeks. After just getting back up and going there was a tragic death in one of the families in the church I pastor. We spent the time with the family and then performing the funeral. God helped and we are thanking God for his divine guidance as we dealt with the different family members. We also have another child in our church who has been dealing with difficult issues. We are trying to help this household out all we can. It is so enjoyable to be involved in people lives and see God work and grant victory.
We have been homeschooling our children this semester so that has added to our craziness in the home. We are enjoying the incredible time God is giving us as we are able to spend more time with both our children. If your planning on being at Bus Convention, Hobe Sound Welcome Week, or IHC we will see you there. May God bless you.

Money and Media
This is Super Tueday as all the political junkies call it. Please allow me to rant and get some frustration off my chest.
I am really wondering what the American people are thinking of the biased media coverage of this political season. It seems that the media are the ones who select who they want, then they report only what they think seems to be needed to pass on. Then the one that has the money to run the ads and smear their face all over the place is the one that gets the coverage. How about limiting the amount of money each candidate can spend and then see who is the best at managing their campain and getting their message across.
The last political debate in California for both Democrat and Republican was a sham and a waste of money. For the Republicans, it was the Romney & McCain show, the moderators really played to them...but remember, the media isn't supposed to be biased "According to their words" then the Democrat debate was a major kissup between Obama and Clinton. I thought these debates were for the voter, so they can see what issues each candidate stands for and how they react to each question. I would suggest for future reference, have the same moderator, the same questions and give each candidate the same amount of time. Then we would see what party and candidate is closest to how we as voters agree with.
Still glad to live in the land of the FREE

Having to catch up!
Greetings to all,
After a week of in and out of bed, coughing, sneezing, and ...you know all that goes on with the typical cold...I am back among the living. I started out the year with the intention of just having a video blog, but as you see...it hasn't gone very good. So, I guess I will come to a compromise, Yes I said COMPROMISE ... I will have video blogs mixed in with text blogs until I get the video thing down pat.
Well, I would like to hear your input of the primaries and debates that have happened and are going to happen. Let's here from you ... all of you political junkies. Also, Let's All Get Involved.
Well, I just wanted to report in real quick and let everyone know, I am still alive. God Bless All Of YOU!
