Read more...Looking Back
Here we are again, at the end of another year. If we all would be honest, we would probably say, "There have been triumphs along with failures". God has blessed my household greatly this year. The older I get, the more I become aware of how much we rely upon each other, and much more upon God.
My heart if full of praise to my God and Savior for all He has allowed to come my way in 2007. Pastoring a wonderful church brings such great blessings when you see fruits for your labors, but even if there are no evident fruits, I know there will be a harvest time. In J. Stowell's book, Perilous Pursuits, he reminds us that everything we do is for God and when we fail, it is due to us wanting to be significant and having the wrong motives, instead of everything we do being for God's Kingdom.
As I end 2007 and approach 2008, I want to strive to build His Kingdom and minimize what I want.
Let's make 2008 an outstanding year of LIVING ALL OUT FOR GOD!
Blessings on all of you!

Focusing On This Season
Good Morning,
I would like to wish each of you a very Merry Christmas. This year I have been trying to focus even more on the real meaning of Christmas and thinking of how it all started in a manger and continues on today with a Living Savior. What a tremendous opportunity we each have as Christians to use the Christmas Story as an open door to extend Christ to the community around each of us. This last Sunday morning, I was priviledged to enjoy the presence of God in a rejoicing way. After the special song "Mary did you know" the presence of God swept down on the church and we had a wave offering to Jesus. I rejoice that the Babe in the Manger, is the one that Lives and Reins. From the Manger to the Cross...Let us rejoice in the Christ of Christmas.

Christmas Dinner
>> Saturday, December 8, 2007
We have returned from our yearly church Christmas dinner. After too much to eat, a lot of great fellowship and a lot of fun and laughs, we all collapse and the Christmas Season has just started. Pamela my wife did a fantastic job organizing the dinner, and I know she could not have done it without the help of all the Sunshine Committee (Becky, Monica, Dorothy) and also Tina deserve a BIG THANK YOU.
The men of the church won for the second year in a row, THE PILLOW CASE STUFF! It was quite comical seeing the men put on a pillow case, but we did it.
I would like to invite everyone to our Christmas Sunday here at the Fairmont Bible Methodist Church. We are having our Children's Program December 16th @ 11:00 am in the am service and a Cantata in the pm service @ 6:00pm. If you need anymore information please email me at pastorpowell@netzero.net
We wish all of you a very Merry Christmas!

Huckabee For President
>> Friday, December 7, 2007
I would like to introduce you to Mike Huckabee. After watching the Value Voters Debate in Ft. Lauderdale, and then in Washington D.C. I have truely decided, this is where my vote is going. I have been encouraging every Bible believing Christian to take a serious look at Mr. Huckabee. Pray for the 2008 presidential elections, and vote your beliefs.
Vote 2008,

Its Christmas Time
Good Morning,
It is Christmas time and the snow is falling. After two days with the kids being out of school and all the excitement of the snow we received, the kids went back to school today. It is still very cold, and snowing but it makes it seem like Christmas now. We are in the midst of the busy time with church dinner this Saturday, practice for the Cantata, and then trying to make it back to Indiana around Christmas time. I believe I would like to forego all the presents, and just enjoy visiting with friends and family at Christmas and truely remember why we celebrate Christmas.
We wish all of you a very Merry Christmas.

Youth Camp
>> Saturday, July 14, 2007
We made it back from picking Stephanie Payne and our son Joshua up from CCYC youth camp. I heard great reports of what is happening there. It sounds like it was a very successful youth camp. It is amazing to hear the different perspectives of different youth. Our son never seems to express himself much. He says, it was ok, or it was good, when he is asked, but give him a little time and the energizer bunny starts running. We are still looking where to take the batteries out. It is wonderful to hear him talk of different youth he has met.
We are now prepairing for our Heartland Youth Camp. My wife and I will be team leaders and it is going to be exciting. It is an honor to serve God and impacting the lives of our youth. I trust God will give each of you a blessed day.

A long time since last post
>> Tuesday, July 10, 2007
Hello,
I admit, I need to do better at keeping this blog updated. We got back late last night from dropping our son Joshua and another teen from our church off at CCYC youth camp in Thomasville NC. After meeting several friends and catching up real quick Pam and I made the 5+ hr drive back here to Fairmont. I count this a very small sacrifice to get my children to places where there are youth that I want them to build relationships with. We trust everyone has a great day.

Year Moving Fast
>> Tuesday, March 6, 2007
It has been going on two months since the last blog. I find myself getting caught up in life and with the pastoral duties, and before I know it many days have passed by. We are in the midst at the Bible Methodist church of Fairmont, of launching a couple of ministries. We are preparing for a skateboard ministry along with a children's ministry. We also have started praying an 1/2 hr before every service. I believe strongly, when we put forth more effort to focus on God, he will honor us in each of our lives. To keep up with what is going on at our church log on to www.fairmontbmc.org
Please keep us in your prayers. God is moving in our midst and it is just a matter of time before we break through to the next level God has for each of our lives and the church.
God Bless,
Pastor Powell
Enjoying God's Goodness
>> Friday, January 19, 2007
Greetings,
I am praising God for His great goodness to my family. God has answered a big prayer for us and I just want to praise His name. We truly serve a God who cares about our every need. I know as a pastor is seems that everything can build up and there isn't to many places to unload at. Just when it seems your at the end of your rope, God comes in and takes care of your need. I know He already knows what we need before we ask, and I should have learned this long ago.
For any of you who are discouraged today...Hold on, Hold on, Hold on...God will see you through. Ps 139 speaks of no matter where we go...on the wings of the morning, to the uttermost parts of the sea. God is there...and even in the womb He knew about us. That blows the abortion fight out of the water...we were formed and we are a living being from conception.
Enough of my ramblings...God bless you today
Looking to the New Year
>> Tuesday, January 16, 2007
The beginning of a New Year always seems to promise new and great things. I am one, who looks positive at almost everything, but the longer I live, I realize it is how I react to situations is what most effects the results of each one.
I am looking forward to what God has in store for my church, my family, and ultimately for me as I serve him to the best of my ability. The illustration of the coffee cup; it is not the cup that makes your coffee good, it is what is in the cup. I know God can use anyone no matter what we look like, God is a great God and can use us all.
Let us all let God use us as he sees fit and let him fill us with whatever he sees that is best.
God Bless You Today,
Pastor J. Powell
